PXT Select Explained

The PXT Select is a pre-employment assessment that measures cognitive ability and behavioral traits, and maps occupational interests as well. It includes 182 items that measure your personality and 77 items that measure your cognitive ability. The test is not timed and takes around 60 minutes to complete. The cognitive section is what really matters in terms of preparation. More about this below…

Preparation is KEY

The good news is that preparation can help you maximize your score potential:

  • While the PXT Select is not timed, the cognitive section is adaptive and you may face some very challenging questions if you show a steady pattern of correct answers.
  • Even though you can use a calculator, at least 50% of the questions will require problem solving skills in numerical and verbal reasoning. Simulating the same question styles in advance puts you in a more comfortable position.
  • The cognitive section comprises 40% of the overall fit score of the PXT Select assessment! If you score low on this section, your qualification chances for the job may decrease dramatically.

If you train for PXT Select in advance, you maximize your score potential.

FAQs

Is the PXT assessment timed?

No, it is not timed. It usually takes up to 60 minutes to complete the assessment.

Is there any difference between PXT Select and Profile XT?

PXT Select is the newer version of the Profile XT. It includes the same sections and measure the same abilities and traits. The differences between the two versions are:

  1. On PXT Select the cognitive section is adaptive, as reviewed in this guide.
  2. Profile XT is available in 30 languages, while PXT Select is only available in English, Spanish, and French.
What is the Customer Service Profile?

It’s a shortened version of PXT Select.

The Thinking Style section includes the more basic cognitive questions and all the Behavioral Traits. In addition, Additionally, 50-60 questions assess how you interact with customers.

What is considered a good score on PXT Select?

The test does not have an overall cut score. It combines behavioral and cognitive sections and therefore must be treated differently. Specifically for the cognitive section your goal is to score in the top percentiles of the population, which means that out of 77 questions, you want to answer 75% of them correctly. This requires training and here we can help.

What about the Interests section?

The Interests section maps occupational interests. The employer can predict how motivated and satisfied you will be when assuming the role.

It is very straightforward and doesn’t require any training in advance.
